Poison Ivy:

Pointed, shiny leaves that are a bit droopy with the middle leaf being the largest and side leaves growing from the stem is a flowering plant that grows in the Asian and north American regions. The leaves have different colors in different seasons.

Cause:

When the poison ivy is touched or comes in contact with the skin, a clear liquid in the plant’s sap called urushiol causes the rash.

The rashes can last from 5 days to over 10 days and in severe cases can last much

Longer.

Prevention:

  • Cold Compress
  • Do not scratch
  • Antihistamines
  • Skin Ointments

When to see a doctor:

  • When the rashes extend over large areas on the body
  • When the rashes and itching  become severe accompanied by swelling
  • If you notice pus in the blisters
